Marvin E. “Tony” Elgin, 85, of Cary, North Carolina, formerly of Center Point, Iowa, died Friday, January 17, 2014, at Hospice House of Wake County. Services: 1:30 p.m. Thursday, January 23, 2014, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Center Point, by Rev. Larry Daubs. Family will greet friends from 4 to 7 pm Wednesday, January 22, 2014, at the funeral home. Military honors will be conducted by American Legion Dye Benion Post 297. Burial: Center Point Cemetery, Center Point.
Survivors include his daughter, Pamela (Dennis) Schneider of Cary, North Carolina; two granddaughters, Shari (Dr. Steven) Rushton of Morrisville, North Carolina, and Janene Schneider of Raleigh, North Carolina; two great-grandsons, Sean and Tyler Rushton; and brother, Ervin Elgin of Center Point, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 57 years, Ella Jeane; sisters, Erma and Bernetta; and brothers, Lyle and Robert.
Tony was born November 4, 1928, the son of Elcy and Beulah (Boyles) Elgin, in Center Point, Iowa. He served his country during the Korean Conflict with the United States Army. On August 5, 1950, Tony was united in marriage to Ella Jeane Eldred in Center Point. She died February 11, 2007.
Tony was an electrician working for Iowa Electric Light and Power in Cedar Rapids, and the Veterans Administration Hospital in Marksville, Louisiana.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a hospice of your choice in memory of Tony.
