Marvin B. Oakland, 76, a resident of Living Center East, died Thursday, July 17, 2003, at the care center, following a long illness. Services: 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 21, 2003, at St. Patrick?s Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Phil Thompson. Friends may call Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids with a rosary recited by Knights of Columbus Council 909 at 4 p.m. Burial: St. John?s Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, with military rites.
Survivors include his mother, Irene Oakland of West Union; four brothers, Ronald (June) Oakland of Rochester, Minnesota, Vernon (Inez) Oakland of Clermont, David (Ann) Oakland of West Union, and Dale Oakland of Kittridge, Colorado; three sisters, Janice (Maurice) Knox of Canton Minnesota, Doris Miller of Golden, Colorado and Linda Boyle of Champlin, Minnesota; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, two brothers, Norman and Jerald and five nieces and nephews.
Marvin was born to Martin and Irene Tinderholt Oakland on January 17, 1927, in Ossian, Iowa. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was employed at Farmstead Foods in Cedar Rapids for many years until retirement. He was a member of St. Patrick?s Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids, Knights of Columbus Council 909, Moose Lodge 304, VFW Post 788 and American Legion Hanford Post #5, which will conduct the military rites.
