Marvin “Mert” B. Boysen, 82, of Marion, died at his home Wednesday, April 4, 2012. Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at Wayne Zion Lutheran Church, Monticello, by Rev. Ellery Dykeman. The family will greet friends from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday, April 9, 2012 at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion, and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Burial: Wayne Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery, Monticello, with military honors provided by American Legion Post # 298 of Marion.

Survivors include his wife, Alberta; sisters, Ruth Avis of Marion, and Betty (Jim) White of Cedar Rapids; brothers, Roy (Cecilia) Boysen of Mesa, AZ, and Ronald (Lynda) Boysen of Gaithersburg, MD; sister-in-law, Byrdena Boysen of Monticello; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, John Jr. Boysen; sisters, Kathryn (Henry) Ehlts, Darlene (Merle) Chapman, Caroline (Ralph) Fiedler; and brother-in-law, Loyd Avis.

Marvin was born March 6, 1930 in Center Junction, IA, the son of John Julius and Henrietta (Osterkamp) Boysen. He received his education at Monticello Community Schools. Marvin was a United States Army veteran, having served during the Korean War. He married Alberta Oltmanns, daughter of Albert and Anna (Hinrichs) Oltmanns, on September 21, 1963 at Wayne Zion Lutheran Church in Monticello.

Marvin was a member of American Legion Post #298 of Marion, and the Cedar Rapids VFW. He worked as a plumber and pipe fitter for Allis Chalmers and Rockwell Collins. Marvin enjoyed helping others, and was a jack of all trades. He will be truly missed by all.

Together with his wife, Marvin enjoyed camping, dancing, and taking long trips. After retirement, Marvin and Alberta would travel south for three months in the winter, either to Arizona, California, Florida, or Texas. He loved meeting old and new friends. He enjoyed life to the fullest with the love of his life, Alberta, and his family and friends.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the doctors, and Bonnie, Lynn, Krissy, Kim, Jerri, Cindy, Sarah, Melissa, with Hospice of Mercy for their compassionate care.
