Marvin L. McVey, 67, of Walker, Iowa, died Wednesday, November 12, 2003, in his home, following a long term illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday, November 14, 2003, at St. Mary?s Catholic Church, Urbana, where friends may call from 3 to 9 p.m. Thursday, November 13, 2003. A Fleet Reserve Service will begin at 7:00 p.m. and a Rosary Service will begin at 7:30 p.m.at the church. Friends may also call from 9:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on Friday. The Rev. Gabriel Anderson will officiate. Burial: Sacred Heart Cemetery, Walker, with military rites. Arrangements with Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Walker.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Rozena; a daughter, Donna (Robert) Strabala of Lincoln, Nebraska; a son, Michael (Terina Buchan) McVey of Hiawatha; his grandchildren, Ellen Strabala, Kyle Strabala, both of Lincoln, Nebraska, Matthew McVey, and Jonathan McVey, both of Hiawatha; a great-granddaughter Alea Marie Strabala; his sisters and brother, Maxine (Bob) Hekel of Shellsburg, Doris (Orlie) Rawson of Walker, Wayne McVey of Cedar Rapids and Myrna (Al) Huschka of Richland Center, Wisconsin; and two brother-in-laws, Wayne (Pat) Beuter and Theodore (Julie) Beuter, all of Walker.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Marvin was born August 29, 1936, the son of Kenneth and Rosalea (Townsend) McVey, in Center Point, Iowa. On June 18, 1956, he was united in marriage to Rozena Beuter at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Walker, Iowa. Marvin served with the United States Navy from 1954 to 1973, retiring as CTRCS. In Walker, he was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, The American Legion Ray Post 376, where he served as Post, County and District Officer, the Walker Historical Society, and served as a 17-year member of the Walker Fire Department. He also was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, the Fleet Reserve Association, Iowa Firemen?s Association, Linn County Historical Society, and the Boy Scouts of America.
Marvin enjoyed bird watching, camping, gardening and spending winters in Texas. He will be truly missed by his family and friends.
A memorial fund has been established in memory of Marvin.
