Marvin “Marv” L. Snyder, 88, of Manchester, died Thursday, March 20, 2008 at Regional Medical Center in Manchester following a sudden illness.
Funeral services will be 10:30 am Tuesday, March 25, 2008 at First Lutheran Church in Manchester by Rev. Harlan Kaden. Family will greet friends from 4-7 pm Monday, March 24 at the Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Manchester and one hour before services Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Manchester with military honors by American Legion Post #45.
Marv was born April 23, 1919 in Marion to Floyd and Esther (Kamoss) Snyder. He was educated in Strawberry Point, and graduated from Strawberry Point High School in 1936. He was united in marriage to Jacqueline “Jackie” Jackson of Strawberry Point on December 18, 1948. Marv entered into the service on March 14, 1942, and fought with the 1st Army in the European Theater of Operation. He was awarded the D-Day Arrowhead, the Bronze Star Medal for treating and evacuating casualties under fire and the Silver Battle Star for serving in all 5 major campaigns in the ETO. Marv worked as a petroleum marketer from 1939 until his retirement in 1986.
Marv was a member of First Lutheran Church in Manchester, and was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post #45 and VFW Post #6637 in Manchester. Marv felt his greatest blessings were the times he shared with his wife Jackie, son, daughter and three granddaughters.
Marv is survived by his wife, Jackie Snyder of Manchester; son, Russel Snyder of Minneapolis, MN; daughter, Pam (Tom) Egts of Bettendorf; granddaughters, Stacy (Luke) Abar of Billings, MT, Stephanie Egts of Iowa City, and Michelle Egts of Bettendorf; sisters, Dawn McGuire of Cedar Rapids, Fonda (Lloyd) Schuchmann of Strawberry Point; and brother, Edwin Kent Snyder of Los Angeles, CA.
Marv was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Esther Snyder.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Camp Courageous in Monticello or First Lutheran Church in Manchester.
