Marvin J. Helle, 85, of Earlville, died, Saturday, May 19, 2012 at Mercy Medical Center, Dubuque. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 am, Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Earlville. Conducted by Rev. Dennis Quint. Visitation will be from 2:00pm – 8:00 pm, Monday, May 21, 2012 at Clifton-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Earlville with a 1:30 pm Scripture Service. Additional visitation will be from 9:00am – 10:00 am on Tuesday before the mass at the funeral home. Burial: St. Joseph's Cemetery, Earlville.
Marvin was born May 13, 1927, the son of William and Anastacia (Maiers) Helle. He married Olga T. Bildstein on November 18, 1946 at the Basilica in Dyersville, Iowa.
The couple farmed until 1969, before settling into their home in Earlville. Marvin bought his first milk truck in 1960. He was a devoted milk hauler for Kraft Foods for 33 years. He continued to stay active in the business until his retirement. He also owned and operated Earlville Oil from 1975 to 1988.
Marvin enjoyed farming, driving international trucks and visiting with his customers. He also enjoyed dancing, bowling, and watching the Cubs. He was an avid card player. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Marvin was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Earlville, past member of the Holy Name Society, Board Member of the Worthington State Bank, and a member of the Earlville Community Club.
Survivors include his loving wife of 65 years, Olga, children, Linda (Roger) Recker of Ryan, Bonnie (Jim) Knipper of Earlville, Karla (Dick) Jasper of Dyersville, Nancy (Ken) Dunkel of Dyersville, Mary (Al) Hoeger of Delhi, Lyle (Marsha) Helle of Earlville, Dale (Heidi) Helle of Lago Vista, Texas, and Carl (Karen) Helle of Verona, Wisconsin; 22 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren; siblings, Alice (William) Boeckenstedt, James Helle and Gene (Esther) Helle; in-laws, Henry (Eileen) Bildstein, and Ardella (Monroe) Hoffmann, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson Todd Dunkel, a great-grand daughter Karli Hoeger, a sister Adella Bildstein; and in-laws , Matt Bildstein, JoAnn Helle, Esther and Gib Digman.
Marvin will be deeply missed by family and friends.
