Marvin Calonder passed away on Monday, August 18, 2014 at his home in Willow Springs, Missouri.
Born on January 19, 1947 in Dubuque, Iowa to Carl and Viola (Fischer) Calonder, he was 67 years old. Marvin lived much of his life in the Manchester, Iowa area. He was active in the FFA and 4-H while attending school. After graduating from high school, Marvin attended Iowa State University while farming with his parents in rural Manchester. He graduated from the University in 1968 receiving his Bachelor's Degree in Farm Operations. Marvin met Judy Calbreath at Iowa State and the two were later married in 1969. He worked for the Farmer's Home Administration in Manchester before entering into farming full time. He served as the Soil and Water Conservation District Commissioner for Delaware County for twenty-eight years, a position he thoroughly enjoyed. He was very active at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Delaware, Iowa and later Our Savior Lutheran Church in Manchester. Marvin and Judy moved to Willow Springs, Missouri in 2005 where he "semi-retired." Marvin had many enjoyments in his life, however, he especially enjoyed horseback riding and participating in the many activities at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in West Plains, Missouri. Even though Marvin was "semi-retired" and living in Willow Springs, he continued to farm in Iowa for several years, commuting in both the busy spring and fall seasons while continuing his interest and participation in conservation projects. Marvin will be greatly missed by his family and friends in Missouri and Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents, several aunts, and uncles.
Marvin is survived by his wife Judy Calonder of Willow Springs, Missouri; his son Mitchell Calonder of Mountain Home, Arkansas; and his grandson Micah Kellog of West Plains, Missouri. He is further survived by one brother, Paul Calonder and his wife Kathy of Brillion, Wisconsin; one sister, Doris McClellan and her husband Leon of Warsaw, Illinois; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
