Martin Joseph Zieser, 84, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, January 1, 2025, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The family will greet friends from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Monday, January 6, 2025, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at Springville Methodist Church in Springville, Iowa, with Pastor Guillermo M. Bongolan officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Springville Cemetery in Springville.
Martin was born on November 12, 1940, in Ryan, Iowa, the son of Joseph and Martha (Haxmeier) Zieser. He was a graduate of Ryan High School and went on to serve his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. On August 18, 1979, Martin was united in marriage to Judy (Huft) Marshall at the Springville United Methodist Church in Springville. Martin worked for Cedar Rapids Inc. for 30 years. He was a talented carpenter, renovating many houses, and was an excellent woodworker. He hand-crafted many special pieces for his family and friends over the years. Martin loved feeding the birds, had a green thumb when it came to gardening, and was also an avid reader. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Martin is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife, Judy Zieser; three children, Kim (Karl) Markley of Springville, Cara (Ken) Goulart of Victoria, Minnesota, and Bradley (Kathy) Zieser of Belle Plaine, Iowa; two stepchildren, Joel (Tammy) Marshall of Cedar Rapids, and Melissa (Beau) Glas of Roanoke, Virginia; twelve grandchildren, Karlee (Shane) Carson, Kolton (Stephanie) Markley, Justin and Nathan Lathrop, Megan Goulart, Nathan Kriz, Nolan and Ryan Zieser, Austin and Allison Marshall, and Grayson and Marshall Glas; as well as two great-grandchildren, Gannon and Rowen Carson; three brothers, Jack (Pat) Zieser of Ryan, Iowa, Kenny (Rose) Zieser of Coggon, Iowa, and Bill (Ilene) Zieser of Leland, Iowa; four sisters, Dolores Zieser of Dubuque, Iowa, Janice (Paul) Hildenbrand of Marion, Rosalyn Zieser of Stratford, Wisconsin, and Patricia (Dick) Cook of Manchester; sister-in-law, Mary Jane Zieser of Marion; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Martha Zieser; siblings, Louie Zieser, Howard (Martha) Zieser, Phil (Marilyn) Zieser, James Zieser, Sr. Josita Zieser, and Kathleen (Jerome) Callan.
