Martin J. Tierney, 84, of 605 West Arlington Place, Chicago, Illinois, died Monday, January 6, 2003, at Grant Hospital in Chicago, following a lengthy illness. Services: 9 a.m. Saturday, January 11, 2003, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion by Rev. John Gossman. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial: Oak Shade Cemetery, Marion.
Survivors include two brothers-in-law, Steven Oakley of Marion and Stanley Oakley of Pasadena, California; a sister-in-law, Genevieve Gillam of Cedar Rapids; and thirteen nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline; two brothers; and a sister.
Martin was born September 25, 1918, in Washington D.C., the son of Martin and Anna (O?Brien) Tierney. He married Pauline Oakley on July 1, 1944, in Joplin, Missouri. She died January 2, 1992 in Chicago. Martin served with the U.S. Army Signal Corps during WWII. He was a manager for Hilton Hotels for 38 years. Martin was a member of St. Clement Catholic Church in Chicago.
