Martin “Marty” Fritz, 74, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa passed away Wednesday, January 23, 2019, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Visitation: 4 – 7 p.m. Monday, January 28, 2019, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Funeral Service: 1 p.m. Tuesday, January 29, 2019, at the funeral home. Burial: Spring Grove Cemetery, Covington, Iowa.
Marty was born November 7, 1944, in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of Virgel Sr. and Melsena (Spicer) Fritz. He joined the United States Army in 1970, and served during Vietnam. Marty married Linda King Swallom in Missouri on March 17, 1973. He worked as a truck driver most of his life but most recently as a shuttle driver and security guard for the Cedar Rapids Marriott Hotel. Marty enjoyed racing boats, playing cards, camping and fishing. His greatest joy was his family and spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Fritz of Cedar Rapids; children, Tammy (Tom) Wurster of Springville, Iowa, Marty (Terrie) Fritz of Burgaw, North Carolina and Mark (Wendy) Fritz of Big Lake, Minnesota; step-daughter, Dana (Scott) Blauer of Cedar Rapids; fourteen grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; siblings, C. Joan McGaffic of Texas, Virgel “Bud” Fritz Jr. of Cedar Rapids, Patty Fritz of Cedar Rapids, Penny Trask of Grimes, Iowa, and Charlie Fritz of Cedar Rapids.
Marty was preceded in death by his parents; step-son, Scott Swallom; brothers-in-law, Paul McGaffic, Randy Trask and Donald Geiger; sister, Merle “Tootie” Geiger; and sister-in-law, Cindy Fritz.
