Marlys Evelyn Garbe, 85, a resident at Prairie Hills of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, December 23, 2018, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Funeral Services in Iowa will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 27, 2018, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, located at 915 - 27th Street, Marion, Iowa, conducted by Rev. Gregory Williamson. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service on Thursday, at the church. Funeral Services in Minnesota will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 28, 2018, at St. James Lutheran Church, located at 460 W. Annapolis Street, West St. Paul, Minnesota, conducted by Rev. Michael Albrecht. The family will also greet friends one hour prior to the service on Friday, at the church. Interment will take place at Acacia Park Cemetery in Mendota Heights, Minnesota. Marlys was born on October 22, 1933, the daughter of Dwight and Evelyn (Erickson) Johnson. She married William “Bill” R. Garbe on June 26, 1954, in West St. Paul, Minnesota. Marlys was a fantastic homemaker and took great care of her children and grandchildren. She was active in various Lutheran churches in all the places where she resided. Marlys enjoyed playing cards, cooking, attending bible studies, making crafts and doting on her grandchildren.
Marlys is survived and lovingly remembered by her sons, Scott (Susan) Garbe of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Steven (Jennifer) Garbe of Lincoln, Nebraska; sister, Nancy (Howard) Unruh of West St. Paul, Minnesota; seven granddaughters, Anna Garbe, Sarah Garbe, Bethany (Captain Kevin) LaCosse, Jessica Garbe, Kristen Garbe, Rachel Garbe and Megan Garbe; two great-grandchildren, Ann-b’yon and Lane; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bill; daughter, Sharon; and special friend, Wayne Tuttle.
