Marlene Jean (Wullner) Wright, 73, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died peacefully on Friday, November 21, 2014 at St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids. A Celebration of Life will be at 11:00 am on Tuesday, November 25, 2014, at the Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Visitation will be from 9:00 am until service time on Tuesday. Burial will be in the Linwood Cemetery at a later date.
Marlene was born on March 23, 1941, the daughter of Otto & Mary (Nelson) Wullner in Postville, Iowa. At that time, the family lived southwest of Gunder. The family moved to Cedar Rapids in 1951. Marlene graduated from Jefferson High School in 1958. On March 1, 1969, she was united in marriage to Merle “Butch” Wright at the Methodist Church in Marion, Iowa. The couple divorced in 1983. Marlene worked at St. Luke’s Hospital from 1958 to 1997 as an administrative secretary. She became a Certified Professional Secretary in 1985.
Marlene was a volunteer for the American Red Cross and had many good friends. She was a very kind and generous person. Marlene treated her nieces and nephews as if they were her own children.
Marlene is survived by her brother, Donald (Sharon) Wullner; sister, Gerri Jacobson; nephews and nieces, David (Cindy) Jacobson, Julie (Steve) Jilovec, Dean (Sue) Jacobson, Connie (Bob) Van Winkle, and Eric Wullner; great nephews and nieces, Nikki (Devon) Morgan, Alexander Jacobson, Jacob Van Winkle, Jordyn Van Winkle, Nicole, Amanda & Cameron Jilovec, Kyle & Trent Raddatz; great-great nephews and nieces, Rylan, Kegan, Alivia, Avery, Adrian, Amaya & Jack; and special friends, Jerry, Dee, Ann, Minnie and Judy.
Marlene was preceded in death by her parents; brother-in-law, Jim Jacobson; former husband, Butch Wright; nephew, Randy Port; and great nephew, Joshua Van Winkle.
The family would like to thank the caring nursing staff at St. Luke’s Cardiac ICU and Inpatient Hospice.
