Marlene Horstman, 76, passed away Tuesday, May 31, 2016, at University of Iowa Hospital and Clinic, Iowa City, Iowa. Visitation: 9 – 11 a.m. Monday, June 6, 2016, at Ascension Lutheran Church, Marion. Celebration of Life: 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 6, 2016, at the church conducted by Pastor Linda Livingston. Inurnment: Oak Shade Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion.
Marlene is survived by her husband, Ken Horstman; two sons, Mike (Char) Horstman of Cedar Rapids and Mark Horstman of Waterloo; a grandson, Eric Horstman of West Des Moines; two sisters, Ann (Roger) Brimeyer of Dubuque and Kathy (Jerry) Cain of North Dakota; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Marlene was born May 19, 1940, in Galena, Illinois, the daughter of Delbert and Vada (Geiger) Symons. On November 27, 1959, she married Ken Horstman at St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Galena, Illinois. Marlene worked in the office at Farmstead Foods and CRST. She was an active member of Ascension Lutheran Church in Marion as well as the Red Hats Society.
She enjoyed music, traveling, shopping, and going out to eat. She especially loved having her family all together and being a grandma.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Marlene’s memory.
