Marlene T. Fuhrmeister, 75, of 2327 Teresa Drive S.W., Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, February 27, 2008, following a short illness. Services: 10:00 a.m., Monday, March 3, 2008, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, by Father Nils Hernandez. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m., Sunday, March 2, 2008, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. A vigil wake service will be held at 6:00 p.m. and a rosary at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday. Burial: St. Joseph Cemetery, Iowa City.
Survivors include her daughter, Janet Mitchell Hotka and husband Dennis Hotka of Cedar Rapids. Her grandchildren include Justin Mitchell and fiancé Megan Hollingsworth, James Mitchell, Julie Mitchell, Jonathan Mitchell and Elizabeth Hotka; one great granddaughter, Jozlynn Grace Mitchell; and two sisters, Lucille Boyd of Iowa and Kay Schneberger of Monticello, Minnesota.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Theodore; three sisters, Rosemary Rogers, Shirley Rocca and Delores Hanrahan; and two brothers, Francis Leeney and Eugene Leeney.
Marlene was born October 3, 1932, in Iowa City, the daughter of Frank and Laurine (Donahue) Leeney. She graduated in 1950 from St. Patrick’s Catholic School in Iowa City, and attended Iowa Bookkeeping Service in Iowa City. On February 19, 1952, she was united in marriage to Theodore Fuhrmeister at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Iowa City. She was a bookkeeper for Kuba Distributing Company for 22 years, retiring in 1984.
Marlene enjoyed playing cards, working crossword puzzles and especially spending time with her family.
