Marlene Joan Carpenter, 83, passed away Friday, September 8, 2017, at the Anamosa Care Center following a prolonged illness. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Monday, September 11, 2017, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Central City. Inurnment for immediate family will be at a later date.
She is survived by her daughters, Joy (John) Gregory of Sanford, Florida and Cristine (Lynn) Lathrop of Nevada, Iowa; sons, Thomas (Karen) Carpenter of Central City and Robert A. (Lorra) Carpenter of Marion; nine grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; and ten great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Charlotte Dunlap of South Amana.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her grandson, Patrick; her parents; and two brothers, Carl and Louis Mertka.
Marlene was born September 8, 1934, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Louis and Maxine (Hugh) Mertka. She married Robert L. Carpenter in 1949 and was a longtime resident of Central City.
Memorials may be addressed to the family, and will be donated to a charity in Marlene’s memory.
