Marland F. Huls, 87, of Manchester, died Wednesday, April 17, 2013, at the Edgewood Convalescent Home. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, April 20, 2013 at The First Lutheran Church in Manchester by Rev. Jean Rabary. Visitation will be from 3:00 pm-7:00 pm, Friday, April 19, 2013 at Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Manchester. Additional visitation will be one hour before services at the church on Saturday. Burial: Oakland Cemetery, with Military Honors conducted by Ryan American Legion Post 692.
Marland was born December 10, 1925 on a farm near Masonville, the son Carl and Hilda (Rafoth) Huls. Marland graduated from Manchester High School in 1944. He served in the army’s Thirty First Dixie Division 117th Field Battalion.
Marland married Gelia “Judy”Haynes on September 26, 1950. They spent most their married life farming in Milo Township. Other than his dairy cattle, his family, especially the grandchildren were the joy of his life.
Marland was a life long member of The First Lutheran Church, Ryan American Legion Post 692, Farm Bureau and a charter member of Manchester High School FFA.
Marland is survived by his wife, Judy; a son Grailing Huls of Ryan; a daughter, Robin (Jim) Gudenkauf of Masonville; and two grandchildren Kaitlin of Cedar Rapids and Nathan of Masonville.
Marland was preceded in death by his parents Carl and Hilda Huls and several aunts and uncles.
A Memorial Fund has been established.
