Marla Jean Machula 75, of Springville, Iowa, passed away Saturday, July 3, 2021, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Family will greet friends from 5 - 7p.m. on Friday, July 9, at Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Marion. A Celebration of Life will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 31, 2021, at Sally's on Broadway in Springville. Private Family Inurnment: Springville Cemetery.
Marla was born on October 28, 1945, in Florida, the daughter of Joseph and Ruby (Smith) McCardle. She married David Machula on October 16, 1964, in Zolfo Springs, Florida. Marla and Dave farmed in rural Springville for many years. She was also a produce purchasing clerk for Nash Finch for over 20 years. Marla was a member of the Springville American Legion Auxiliary. She loved sewing and was actively involved in quilting with her friends. Marla enjoyed cooking and loved to bake and decorate cakes. She made many wedding cakes over the years. Marla also loved gardening, jewelry making and basket weaving.
She is survived by her husband, Dave Machula of Springville; son, Michael (Melody) Machula of Fairfax; daughter, Michele Machula of Springville; two grandchildren, Cassie (Caleb) Shaw and Emily (fiancé, Brady Even) Machula; great-granddaughter, Murphy Jade “MJ” Shaw; sister, Becky (Grady) Dees of Tucson, Arizona; and two brothers, Richard (Annie) McCardle of Florida and Wayne (Jan) McCardle of North Carolina.
Marla was preceded in death by her parents.
