Dr. Mark F. Turnis, 67, of Marion, formerly of Wichita, Kansas, died Friday, October 8, 2004, at Crestview Acres Care Center in Marion, following a brief illness. Services: 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 13, 2004, at St. Pius X Catholic Church by Rev. Dustin Vu. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion where a parish vigil service will begin at 6:30 p.m. Graveside Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Paul?s Catholic Cemetery in Worthington.
Survivors include his son, Mo (Trisha) Turnis of Cedar Rapids; five sisters, Norma McDonell, Mary Francis (Larry) Jasper, Ruth Turnis, Janet (Jack) Digmann and Rosie (Leo) Heid; three brothers, Richard (Verla) Turnis, Bill (Verna) Turnis and Phil (Mary Kay) Turnis, all of Eastern Iowa; his granddaughter, Rebecca Leigh Turnis of Cedar Rapids; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Sylvia Turnis; and his sister, Betty Turnis.
Mark was born April 2, 1937, the son of Frank and Mary (Sherlock) Turnis in Monticello, Iowa. He received his under graduate degree from Loras College, his master?s degree from the University of Missouri and his PHD Psychology from Iowa State University. On November 30, 1968, he married Sylvia Orth. She died October 28, 2001. Mark practiced child psychology from 1969 - 1997 at the Wichita Guidance Center, retiring in 1997. He was a past member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Wichita, Kansas and currently a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids.
