Marcus A. Oberbreckling, 56, of Lamont died Friday morning, July 2, 2004 in his home following a short illness.

Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 5 at St. Mary?s Catholic Church in Lamont by Rev. Jack Paisley. Friends may call from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday at the Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Manchester with a Rosary at 4:00 and Scripture Service at 7:30. There will also be visitation one hour prior to services Monday at the church. Burial will be at Peace Lutheran Cemetery in Ryan with military rites.

Mark was born on October 27, 1947 in Manchester, the son of Otto J. and Alvina M. (Timmer) Oberbreckling. He attended St. Patrick?s School in Ryan and West Delaware High School. In 1966, Mark entered the U.S. Army and served in the Vietnam Conflict. Upon his discharge in 1968, Mark returned to Ryan and worked construction with his brothers. He moved to Mississippi for three years where he worked for a siding company. Mark moved back to Ryan and continued working construction before starting his own construction business in 1975. On February 12, 1983 he was united in marriage to Julie M. Smock at the Peace Lutheran Church in Ryan. In 1993, Mark began driving truck for Elliott Brothers of Dysart. He retired due to ill health in 2001.

Mark is a member of the Strawberry Point American Legion Post #218.

Mark?s family includes his wife, Julie Oberbreckling of Lamont; three children, Steven Oberbreckling (special friend Erin Brunko) of Marion, Sam Oberbreckling of Lamont and Sara Brockmeyer (fiancé Sean Harrington) of Cedar Rapids; one granddaughter, McKenna Brockmeyer; his mother, Alvina Oberbreckling of Ryan; twelve siblings, Jerome Oberbreckling of Anamosa, Madonna Gustaveson of Cedar Rapids, Lester (Cheryl) Oberbreckling of Ft. Dodge, Delrose Phelps of Cedar Rapids, Marjorie (Rich) Wolfe of Ryan, Tom (Lana) Oberbreckling of Onslow, Herb Oberbreckling of Oxford Junction, Daniel (Linda) Oberbreckling of Winthrop, Ronald (Jean) Oberbreckling of Wyoming, Charles Oberbreckling of Cedar Rapids, Luke (Mary) Oberbreckling of Mechanicsville and Randy Oberbreckling of Cedar Rapids; mother-in-law, Donna Smock of Ryan; brothers and sisters-in-law, Barb (Ed) Heathman of Ryan, Mike (Theresa) Smock of Lamont and Jean Dryer of Ryan; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by a daughter, Ashley Oberbreckling ; his father, Otto Oberbreckling; and a brother, Art Oberbreckling.
