Marjorie Towers Ketelsen, 87, a resident of Keystone Cedars in Cedar Rapids, formally of Marion, died Sunday, February 11, 2007. Services: 10 a.m. Friday, February 16, 2007, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion, by Rev. Julie Anderson Schuett. Burial: Oakwood Cemetery, Monticello. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 - 8 p.m. Thursday.
Survivors include her husband, John; five children, Kathy (James) Ernst of Monona, Iowa, and their children, John and Amy Ernst; Randy (Maureen) Ketelsen of Arvada, Colorado, and their children, Mindy Porter and Erica Ketelsen; Lynn (Mary) Ketelsen of Owatonna, Minnesota, and their children, Matthew, Sarah and Leeann Ketelsen; Gary (Debbie) Ketelsen of Springville, and their children, Jeremy, Holly and Trisha Ketelsen; and Von Ketelsen of Marion; and Marjorie?s sister, Marian (John) Kelso of Alexandria, Virginia.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, John "Jack? Ketelsen; and a brother, Dr. Charles "Mac? Towers.
Marjorie was born October 15, 1919, the daughter of Charles B. and Iva (McChesney) Towers in La Cygne, Kansas. She graduated from Marion High School in 1937 and from Cedar Rapids Business College. On March 5, 1944, she was united in marriage to John R. Ketelsen.
Marjorie was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Marion for over seventy years. She was a 67 year member of the Order of Eastern Star, a 50 year member of Marion Rural Homemakers, and U.S. Homemakers Circle. Other memberships included El Kahir Shrine Ladies Auxiliary, Excelsior Club and the Cedar Rapids Horseman?s Club.
Marjorie and John were proud to be one of the founding families of Linn-Mar High School. She was an active participant in the founding of Ketelsen RV. Her optimistic attitude was a hallmark of the family business. She was a loving wife to John for nearly sixty-three years. Marjorie had a way of making people feel good about themselves. She was always a fun-loving and positive person and her family was the most important thing in her life.
Following services, a luncheon will be provided at El Kahir Shrine Temple, 1400 Blairs Ferry Road NE in Cedar Rapids.
