Marilyn Rose Zieser, 73, of Ryan, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, at St. Lukes Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, February 18, 2024, at Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Manchester. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 19, 2024, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Ryan, with an additional visitation one hour prior to mass. Reverend Gabriel Anderson will officiate. Private family burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery, Ryan.
Marilyn was born on December 12, 1950, in Manchester, Iowa, the daughter of Harold and Marcella (Singsank) Steffen. She graduated from West Delaware High School in 1969. Marilyn married Philip Zieser on April 15, 1972, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Ryan; four children were born to this union. She worked at Ertl’s in Dyersville, D&D Convenience Store, helped at the school and ran an in-home daycare for many years. Marilyn was a lifelong member of the St. Patrick Catholic Church in Ryan where she was a Treasurer for the Care and Concerns Committee for more than 10 years. Her faith was very important to her. She was also a member of the Ryan American Legion Auxiliary. Marilyn was a hard worker who enjoyed baking delicious goodies, tending to her garden and canning what she harvested. She was a very kind and caring person who always took time to listen. She loved spending time with friends and family, especially her grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her.
Marilyn is survived by her children, Shawn (Holly) Zieser of Masonville, Iowa, Tony (Mary) Zieser of Ryan, Kate (Russ) Rahe of Dyersville, Iowa, Brian ( Mandy) Zieser of Anamosa; eight grandchildren, Taylor (Drew) Cole, Kaleb Zieser, Hunter Zieser and fiancée Hannah Husted , Garrett Zieser, Connor Rahe, Eva Rahe, Addison Zieser, Lillian Zieser: siblings, Carl (Marilee) Steffen of Ryan, Marcia Gager of Walker, Iowa, Dan ( Barb) Steffen of Farley, Mary (Steve) Sweet of New Richmond, Wisconsin, Margie (Bruce) Schneider and Greg (Mary) Steffen both of Manchester; along with many nieces, nephews and loving relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Philip Zieser; parents, Harold and Marcella Steffen; brother and sister-in-law, Gary (Jean) Steffen; brother-in-law, Rolly Gager; mother and father-in-law, Joseph and Martha Zieser and brothers and sisters-in-laws, Louie (Marge) Zieser, Kathleen (Jerry) Callan, Sister Josita Zieser, Howard (Martha) Zieser and Jim Zieser.
