Marilyn I. Vane, 87, of Promise House, Hiawatha, died Saturday, October 6, 2007, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, following a short illness. Memorial Service: 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 10, 2007, at First Lutheran Church, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Dr. Kay Slocum. The family will greet friends from 10 a.m. until service time on Wednesday at the church. Burial: Czech National Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Arrangements with Murdoch-Linwood Funeral & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her daughter, Nancy (Larry) Hanson of Marion; two grandchildren, Ryan Hanson of Pontiac, Illinois and Robyn (Kyle) Ledger of Marion; two great-grandchildren, Bailey and Tyler Hanson; nephews, Bruce Boyson, Robert Boyson, Robert Straughn III and Eric Straughn; a niece, Linda Denny; and a sister-in-law, Phyllis Straughn.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Franklin; and her brother, Robert Straughn.
Marilyn was born August 5, 1920, the daughter of Robert and Adeline (Stuvland) Straughn, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. On March 12, 1942, she was united in marriage to Franklin Vane at St. Paul’s Methodist Church, Cedar Rapids. He died May 8, 2006. For 20 years, Marilyn worked for the Cedar Rapids Community School District. She enjoyed sewing and knitting. Marilyn made banners and choir robes for her church and nearly 100 teddy bears for St. Luke’s Hospital. She was a member of the First Lutheran Church and the VFW Post 788.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Promise House and Dr. Marianne Nelson for their support and loving care.
