Marilyn I. Smith, 65, of Alburnett, Iowa, formerly of Jacksonville, Illinois, and Moberly, Missouri, died Sunday, November 14, 2004, at Heritage Nursing & Rehab Center, Cedar Rapids, following complications of a long illness. Memorial Service: 11:30 a.m. Thursday, November 18, 2004, at Concord Christian Church, Concord, Illinois, by the Rev. Francis Ater. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, November 17, 2004, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Burial: 3:00 p.m. Thursday, Pittsfield West Cemetery,
Pittsfield, Illinois.
Survivors include a daughter, Melanie (Dan) Peterson of Alburnett; a son, Michael Smith of Huntsville, Missouri; four grandchildren, Andrew, Bethany, Joshua and Rebekah Peterson; four sisters, Donna Mae (Harold) Farmer of Ashland, Illinois, Eleanor (Glenn) Mason of Murrayville, Illinois, Carolyn (Larry) Summers of Jacksonville, Illinois and Maxine (Dale) Homer of Chapin, Illinois; and a brother, John (Mary Lou) Lael of Ashland, Illinois.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Richard Lael.
Marilyn was born May 5, 1939, the daughter of Owen and Myrtle (Ham) Lael, in Springcreek, Illinois. She worked at Moberly Regional Medical Center as a transcriptionist and later became a Country Peddler Dealer. Marilyn?s favorite color was red. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, baking, sewing, making crafts, Lily of the Valley flowers, and going to craft shows and flea markets.
