Marilyn Joyce Skilling, 81, a resident of Village Ridge, died peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, December 28, 2011, at her home. Funeral Mass: 11 a.m. Friday, December 30, 2011, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion by Father Tony Kruse. Family will greet friends from 9 a.m. until service time Friday at the church. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion. Private Family Inurnment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, at a later date.
Survivors include her children, Kirk (Pam) Skilling of Marion, and Amy (Ken) Skilling-Stracener of Mechanicsville; 8 grandchildren, Whitney Larimer, Annie Skilling, Shay Harrington, Hunter Skilling, Taylor Harrington, Blaine Moyer, Jordan Skilling, and Brandt Skilling; 3 great-grandchildren, Sloane, Hendrix, and Dylan; a sister, Beverly Miller of Algona; brother-in-law, Gerald (Bonnie) Skilling of Arizona; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard “Dick” Skilling; son, Scott Skilling; her parents; brother, Richard (Mary) Wilhelmi; and two brothers-in-law, Ed (Jean) Skilling and Christian Miller.
Marilyn was born September 27, 1930, in Irvington, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph and Doris Wilhelmi. She graduated from St. Cecelia High School. Marilyn was the office manager at A.N. Hauschild and later at Barnes Tool and Die (both in Marion), retiring in 1992. She was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and volunteered at Mercy Hospital and the Free Medical Clinic for many years. Marilyn enjoyed playing bridge, and was known for her fabulous baked goods.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the American Diabetes Association, 1026 A Avenue NE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52402, in Marilyn’s honor.
