Marilyn J. Houser, 82, a resident of Willow Gardens Care Center, Marion, Iowa died, Saturday, March 1, 2008, at the care center, following a long illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 6, 2008, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion, by Rev. Laura Smith. The family will greet friends from 4 - 8 p.m., Wednesday, March 5, 2008 at the funeral home. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Survivors include two brothers, Dr. Robert (Martha) Thompson of Zumbrota, Minnesota and John (Carol) Thompson of Marion; two nephews, Andrew (Wendy) Thompson of Bemidji, Minnesota and Peter (Mayumi) Thompson of San Francisco, California; and specials friends, Dick & Linda Anderson of Cedar Rapids.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two daughters, Linda and April; one grandson, Jeff Rehnstrom, and one nephew, Paul Thompson.
Marilyn was born July 16, 1925, the daughter of Francis and Margaret (Roby) Fuller in Iowa City, Iowa. Margaret and Francis later divorced and she then married Silas J. Thompson.
Marilyn married Roy Mainard Houser on October 28, 1972 in Marion. He died in 1989. Marilyn was a long time secretary at many different businesses, including St. Luke’s, FMC, Link-Belt Speeder, and United Fire and Casualty. She served in the U.S. Navy Waves during W.W.II. She was a member of the Kenwood Park United Methodist Church. She attended the American Institute of Business in Des Moines and the Draughous Business College in Dallas, Texas. She was a member of Marion American Legion Post #298 and served as former chairman of Americanism. Marilyn had volunteered many hours at St. Luke’s Hospital and Mercy Medical Center. In addition to her professional and community involvement, she also loved being a homemaker.
