Marilyn Catherine Gillis, 60, of Atkins, formerly of Cedar Rapids and Coggon, died Monday, February 4, 2008, at her son’s home, following a long illness. The family will greet friends from 4 - 6:30 p.m., Thursday, February 7, 2008, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Central City, where a vigil service will begin at 6:30 p.m. and will be conducted by Father Wayne Droessler. Private family inurnment will take place at Coggon Cemetery at a later date.
Survivors include her son, Craig (Rhonda) Purdy of Atkins, Iowa; daughters Michelle King and Mindy Bickal, both of Corpus Christi, Texas; siblings, Sharon (Danny) Reiter of Coggon, Janice Coleman of Marion, Joe Haas of Cedar Rapids, John Haas of Coggon, Mary (Terry) Maroney of Masonville, Iowa; and her faithful companion, Lucky.
Other survivors include her grandchildren, KayCee Purdy, Jeremiah Purdy, Jairus King, and Oceanna King.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Teresa Purdy and a sister, JoAnn Boring.
Marilyn was born December 24, 1947, the daughter of Eugene F. and Rita B. (McNamara) Haas, in Anamosa, Iowa. She worked as an electrical technician at Rockwell Avionics for 12 years.
