Marilda was born September 28, 1913, the daughter of Francis Lee & Erma (Duckmanton) Pratt, at Burt, Iowa. She graduated from Burt High School in 1930 and continued her education at Rockford College in Rockford, Illinois, where she studied music. She then lived and taught in Bancroft, Iowa, until 1942.

On January 11, 1942, Marilda was united in marriage to Ronald Mac Elvidge, Sr., at the Methodist Church in Burt. They lived in Florida, Texas, and Oklahoma until Ron went overseas to serve as a fighter pilot. At that time, Marilda moved back to Burt where she lived until 1945 when Ron came home from the service. In 1956, they then moved to Waterloo, Iowa. In 1948, Ron and Marilda moved to Dundee, Iowa, and began raising their three sons. In 1956, they moved to Colesburg, Iowa, where they resided for many years. Marilda taught school at Greeley and then Maquoketa Valley Schools until 1976 when she retired from 30 years of teaching.

In 1978, Ron died and Marilda moved to Manchester, Iowa, and lived there until 2006. While in Manchester, she was a member of the United Methodist Church where she belonged to the Esther Circle. She also belonged to a quilt-making group called the Calico Capers, the Del-Clay Retired Teachers Association, AARP, and Regional Medical Center Hospital Auxiliary. Marilda participated in several volunteer activities such as assisting with vaccinations for school children, delivering meals to senior citizens, and helping at the Regional Medical Center. Her hobbies included genealogy, playing cards with the Fort Nightly Club, crafts at the Golden Age Center, and traveling to Arizona. She especially enjoyed the time she spent on her patio with her special friend, Dorothy.
