Marietta B. Puffett, 91, of Dundee, Iowa, died early Wednesday morning, November 6, 2002, at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester, Iowa.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 am on Saturday, November 9, at St. John?s Lutheran Church, Dundee, Iowa with Pastor Roger McKinstry and Vicar Steve Andersen officiating. Friends may call from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Friday, November 8 at the Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Manchester, and one hour before services on Saturday at the church. Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery in Manchester.
Marietta was born May 7, 1911, in Strawberry Point, Iowa, the daughter of George R. and Nettie (Meyer) Baumgartner. Marietta was baptized at the St. Sebald Lutheran Church in Strawberry Point, Iowa, received confirmation at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Strawberry Point and was a long time member of the St. John?s Lutheran Church in Dundee, Iowa. She received her elementary education in the Strawberry Point School, later graduating from the Dundee School in 1928. Marietta attended Lenox College in Hopkinton, where she earned her Iowa Elementary Education Teaching Certificate. She taught school in rural Clayton County for a year and a half. Marietta was a substitute teacher for the Dundee School for many years, she also taught Sunday School and Bible School at St. John?s Lutheran Church. On January 2, 1932, Marietta was united in marriage to Lynn Earnest Puffett at the Lutheran parsonage in Galena, Illinois. They farmed in the Dundee area, before moving into Dundee in 1937, where Lynn did general trucking, later establishing his own business, Puffett?s Feed & Livestock. In 1963 they built a new home in Dundee where Marietta resided until July of 2000. She then moved to the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester.
Marietta was a homemaker whose focus was her family. She eagerly anticipated family gatherings that filled her home with love and laughter. Marietta was a woman of faith who enjoyed crocheting, her flower garden, and was always ready to take on a challenger in Skip-Bo. Her loving guidance will be missed by her family.
Marietta is survived by a son, Glenn Puffett and his wife Karen of Dundee; one daughter-in-law, Jean Puffett of Dundee; seven grandchildren, Debra Puffett Cress and husband, Kevin of Center Point; William Puffett and wife, Lori of Mitchellville; Michael Puffett of Iowa City; Mary Puffett of Center Point; Jeffrey Puffett and wife, Jody of Manchester, Jerry Puffett of Dundee and Dr. Jason Puffett of Independence; ten great-grandchildren, three sisters-in-law, Elsie Stamp of Cedar Falls, Erma Mae Baumgartner of Bonita Springs, Florida and Luetta Puffett of Cedar Rapids.
Marietta was preceded in death by her husband Lynn, in 1981; her son James, in 1996; her parents George and Nettie Baumgartner; and three brothers, Harold, Ronald and George Baumgartner Jr.
