Marie H. Rausch, 90, of Earlville, Iowa, died Tuesday, February 3, 2004, at the Ennoble Manor Care Center, Dubuque, Iowa, after an extended illness.

A Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 7, 2004, at St. Joseph?s Catholic Church, Earlville, with Rev. Herbert Tegeler and Deacon Jim Steger officiating. Friends may call from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday and after 9:00 a.m. on Saturday at the Clifton-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Earlville. There will be a Rosary at 4:00 p.m. by the Guild and Catholic Daughters and Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Burial will be in the St. Joseph?s Catholic Cemetery, Earlville.

Marie Helen was born on February 1, 1914, in Petersburg, Iowa, the daughter of Valentine "Valley? and Cecelia M. (Thole) Nefzger. She attended parochial school in Petersburg and farmed with her family. On January 3, 1933, Marie was united in marriage to Edmund P. Rausch in Petersburg. The couple farmed in the Earlville area until they moved to town in 1968. Marie was Head Cook at the Beckman High School from 1967-1983. She was the reading instructor at the Earlville school and cooked at several local restaurants. Marie did sewing for Oak Crest Manor. Ed passed away on October 7, 1990.

Marie was a member of St. Joseph?s Catholic Church in Earlville where she belonged to the Guild and was a 50-year member of the Catholic Daughters. She was a 4-H leader and enjoyed cooking and sewing for others. Marie hobbies included playing cards, bowling, reading and watching the Lawrence Welk Show.

Marie is survived by three daughters, Verna (Dennis) Welte of Sioux City, Marilyn (Pete) Pirc of Earlville, Linda "Linn? (Kirk) Corbett of Cedar Rapids; five sons, Francis (Joyce) Rausch of Holy Cross, Leon (Carol) Rausch of Epworth, Jerome (Jean) Rausch of Cascade, Celester Rausch of Epworth and Loras Rausch of Dyersville; forty-three grandchildren and eighty-nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Ed; two brothers, Elmer and Edward Nefzger, two sisters, Laura and Bertha Goldsmith; two daughters-in-law, Betty and Linda Rausch; and four grandchildren.
