Marie W. Pegariek, 84, of the Heritage Nursing & Rehab Center, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died there Monday, November 5, 2007, following a long illness. Services: 10:00 a.m., Thursday, November 8, 2007, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Steven Rosonke. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, November 7, 2007, at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her sons, David (Mary) Jayne, and Tim Jayne both of Cedar Rapids; daughters, Mary Pat (Daryl) Mally of Cedar Rapids and Susan (Dave) Pierce of Phoenix, Arizona; six grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; a step granddaughter; two step great grandchildren; and a sister, Margaret (Tom) Van Woert of Cedar Rapids.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leroy; son, Donald Jayne; brother, George Sommer; and sisters, Henrietta Maher and Barbara Campbell.
Marie was born December 31, 1922, in Cedar Rapids, to Henry and Marie (Krabacher) Sommer. She married Donald E. Jayne in April of 1945. They later divorced. She married Leroy Pegariek on May 21, 1960. He died in November 1992. She worked for Boston Fisheries for several years.
The family wishes to express their thanks to the Heritage Nursing and Rehab Center for their care and friendship during Marie’s several years there and a special thank you to Hospice of Mercy, Rebecca Bradshaw, Sarah Jordon and Kay Limkemann for their care and compassion.
A memorial fund has been established in Marie’s memory.
