Marie E. “Peg” Carpenter, 89, a resident of Northbrook Manor Care Center in Cedar Rapids, formerly of Central City, died there Sunday, August 10, 2008. Private Family Graveside Services: 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 12, 2008, at Mt. Clark Cemetery in Central City by Monica Carpenter. There will be no visitation. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Central City.

Survivors include her children, Duane (Sharon) Carpenter of Cedar Rapids, Albert (Jackie) Carpenter of Independence, and Shelley (Rich) Shanahan of Springville; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

Also surviving are two sisters, Alberta Burnell of Independence and Joan Ford of Sutliff.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James; a brother, Raymond “Cub” Wenger; a sister, Gail Wenger; a son, Billie Joe Carpenter; and a grandson, Joe Carpenter.

Marie was born April 29, 1919, the daughter of Albert and Blanche (LeClere) Wenger in Coggon. She graduated from Central City High School in 1937. On April 30, 1937, she married James Carpenter in Galena, Illinois.
