Marie Knepper, 86, of Manchester, Iowa died Monday May 12, 2003 at Finley Hospital in Dubuque, following a brief illness.
Services will be held 11:30 am Thursday, May 15, 2003 at St. Mary?s Catholic Church in Manchester, the Rev. Ralph Simington officiating with the Rev. Dan Knepper as concelebrant. Friends may call from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, May 14, at the Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, where a Scripture Service will be held at 7:30 pm. The Catholic Daughters of America will recite the Rosary at 3:00 pm and the St. Vincent Study Club will recite the Rosary at 5:00 pm. Friends may also call from 10:30 am to 11:30 am Thursday at the Church. Burial will be in the St. Mary?s Catholic Cemetery, Manchester.
Marie was born January 22, 1917, in Farley, Iowa, the daughter of James S. & Anna (Bailey) Breen. She received her education at St. Joseph School, Farley, graduating in 1933. Marie then obtained her teaching certificate from the Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, now known as UNI. Marie taught country school in the Cascade and Farley area. On October 24, 1944, Marie married Carl Knepper at St. Martin?s Catholic Church in Cascade, Iowa. Together they farmed near Ryan. In 1946 Marie and Carl moved to Manchester. In 1961 they purchased Carl?s Feed & Farm Store where Marie helped Carl with the feed store until they sold the business in 1983. Carl passed away April 17, 1993.
Marie was a member of St. Mary?s Catholic Church in Manchester, where she belonged to the Catholic Daughters of America, St. Vincent's Study Club, and served as past president of the Rosary Society. She volunteered as a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts. Marie enjoyed playing cards with her Bridge Club, league bowling, golfing and reading. She enjoyed gardening and especially loved her flowers.
Marie is survived by a daughter, Janet; three sons, Ron of Manchester, Robert (Kandy) of Parker, Colorado and Patrick (Jean) of Iowa City, Iowa; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Carl; her parents, James & Anna Breen and two brothers, Paul and James "Bud? Breen.
