Marie L. Henderson, 87, of 1600 1st St. East, Independence, formerly of Central City, died Saturday, May 17, 2008, at the Buchanan County Health Center, following a long illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 21, 2008, at the United Church of Christ in Central City by Rev. Jonna Jensen. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Central City. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.

Survivors include her son, David (Wilma) Henderson of Central City; her daughter, Judy (Ron) Hess of Independence; six grandchildren, Daniel (Marie) Henderson, Peter Henderson, Kathy (Kevin) Storla, Phillip Henderson, Steven (Leslie) Hess, Ronda (Brian) Hilbert; and twelve great-grandchildren, Adam, Hollee, Michele, and Erik Henderson, Jeanne (Nicholas Jaeger) and Joshua Storla, Casey (Bree) and Katie Henderson, Jay and Justin Hess, and Cory and Matthew Hilbert; and two great-great-grandchildren, Evelyn Steffen and Ryker Henderson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sisters, her twin, Mary L. Clark and Evelyn Davis; and a brother, Lyle Clark.

Marie was born August 2, 1920, the daughter of James A. and Blanche G. McFarlin Clark in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She was raised by her grandparents, James and Lydia McFarlin from the age of nine in Waubeek. On June 26, 1938, she married Dudley R. Henderson in Lisbon. He died December 19, 1973. Marie was the Central City Librarian for nine years. She assisted her husband in Real Estate Sales and later with Chet Bullis.

Marie was a member of the United Church of Christ in Central City, a fifty year member of O.E.S. Linn Chapter No. 74, Monday Club, Ladies Literary Club, and Valley Farm Club.

Mom was an inspiration to many with her great sense of humor and never complaining of any pain or suffering she was experiencing. Her strong belief in God carried her through many heartaches.

The family wishes to express their thanks to the Buchanan County Health Center Long Term Care for their friendship and care during Mom’s several years there and Cedar Valley Hospice for their support.

Instead of flowers, memorials may be made to the United Church of Christ in Central City, the First Presbyterian Church in Independence or Cedar Valley Hospice in Independence.
