Maribeth Sophia Altenhofen Peyton, 84, of Sigourney, formerly of Marion, passed away from dementia on January 7, 2016, at Sigourney Health Care. Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 12, 2016, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Marion, Iowa. Visitation will begin at the church one hour prior to the funeral. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.

Maribeth was born May 12, 1931, near Harper, the 4th child of Edmund and Gertrude Laux Altenhofen. She attended St. Elizabeth Catholic School in Harper, Van Buren #6 rural school near Sigourney, Sigourney High School, and graduated from Thornburg High School in 1949. She then attended Iowa Success Business College in Ottumwa. On October 15, 1955, she was united in marriage to Dale Dean Peyton of Marion at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids.

In 1991, she retired from Rockwell-Collins after 40 years in administration. She later was employed by Nordstroms for seven years, and moved to Sigourney in 2012.

Maribeth was a member for sixty years at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion, a life member of Marion Unit 298 American Legion Auxiliary, and a life member of Cedar Rapids Unit 788 Veteran of Foreign Wars Auxiliary.

She is survived by a brother Clair Paul of Greenville, South Carolina; a sister, Patricia Altenhofen of Sigourney; sisters-in-law, Roseanne Altenhofen of Marion, and Patricia Altenhofen of Newton, Kansas; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband in 1976; brothers, Dean, William, and Jerome; and one sister, Dolores Jeffrey Peterson.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for the Catherine McAuley House for Women or the Sigourney Health Care.
