Marianne Lawrence, 90, of Central City, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, September 8, 2024, at the Hiawatha Care Center. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Central City, where Marianne raised her family. Funeral Mass will begin at 11 a.m. on Thursday, September 12, 2024, at St. Stephen Catholic Church in Central City. Burial will follow at Mt. Clark Cemetery. Marianne was born on March 13, 1934, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of William and Faye (Torrance) Kerchill. She was a 1952 graduate of Central City High School. At 19 years old Marianne married Stanley Lawrence, on September 2, 1953, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Prairieburg, Iowa. She worked at Collins Radio for eight years and then continued to work beside her husband at Murdoch Funeral Homes for 58 years. Marianne and her husband played bingo at the American Legion in Central City for 27 years. She enjoyed the many trips with 4L farm group, Farmers State Bank mystery trips, numerous cruises, and visited Europe eight times, with Ireland being her favorite. Marianne enjoyed the outdoors with her yellow labs and feeding the birds. She enjoyed listening to polka music and baking for the family. Marianne will be remembered for her stubbornness but will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Marianne is survived and lovingly remembered by her husband, Stan; daughter, Kathy (Rick) Sole of Cedar Rapids; son, Steven Lawrence (Tracey Fredrickson) of Central City; grandchildren, Shannon Sole (Joe Moser) of Des Moines, Allison (Bryce) Cunningham of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Caitlin Sole of Des Moines, Elliot and Abbey Lawrence; great-grandchildren, Maren and Nolan Cunningham; in-laws, Gilbert (Rita) Lawrence, and Virginia (Marvin) Elliott; and many special nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and sister-in-law, Theresa Hood.
