Marian Gertrude "Gertie? Wheeler, 84, died Wednesday, September 10, 2003, in her son?s home near Springville, following an extended illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 15, 2003, at First Christian Church, Center Point, with Rev. John Caughron officiating. Burial: Davis Cemetery, rural Center Point. Friends may call at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Center Point, from 2 - 4 p.m. Sunday (Sept. 14).
Survivors include two sons, Kent Wheeler and wife Kris of Springville and Tonie Wheeler and wife Barb of rural Center Point; two daughters, Yvette Sawyer and husband Don of Center Point and Nanette Schmidt and husband Ed of rural Springville; her grandchildren, Cindy Hradek, Clint and Shayne Wheeler, Donette White, Kyle and Chad Sawyer, Bea Felter, Gina Larison, Roxann Comried, Turesa Davis, Duwayne and Rodney Wheeler, Russell Schmidt and Jennifer Young; thirty-five great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; two step-great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Donna Wachel of Walker and Wanda Sellers of Vinton.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Gene and Ada (Boyles) Cross; her husband, Kenneth L. Wheeler; and two brothers, Elward Cross and an infant brother.
Gertrude was born in Urbana, Iowa, on November 20, 1918, to Gene and Ada Cross. She married Kenneth L. Wheeler on April 26, 1939. Gertrude was a member of First Christian Church, which she proudly attended regularly. She was also a member of CWF.
Gertrude will be missed but will be remembered for her love of family, flowers, birds and her wonderful smile.
