Marian L. Vorwald, 84, of 302 Ninth St., Marion, died Saturday, June 21, 2008 at St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 24, 2008, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion, by Rev. ___. The family will greet friends from 5 - 8 p.m., Monday, June 23, 2008 at the funeral home. Graveside Service: 2:30 p.m., Tuesday, June 24, 2008 at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Guttenberg, Iowa.
Survivors include her children, Phyllis Wiggins of Elgin, Iowa, Peggy (Dale) Cooksley of Elgin, Iowa, Kathy McDermott of Cedar Rapids, Steven (Robin) Halverson of Garrison, Kentucky, and Susan (Jim) Thomas of Marion; 15 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Donna Ray; a granddaughter, Gena; two brothers, Earl & Leonard; and a sister, Lorna.
Marian was born September 23, 1923, the daughter of Arthur and Luara (Smith) Ricker, in Allamakee County, Iowa. She graduated from Postville High School in 1941. Marian married Palmer Halverson of Monona, Iowa. They later divorced. She then married Theodore W. Vorwald on August 18, 1967 in Minnesota. He died September 13, 1997. Marian worked at Kiddie’s Corner for 9 years and at the Boston Store for 5 years.
A memorial fund has been established in Marian’s name.
