Marian A. Kucera, 88, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died on Sunday, September 28, 2014, at Westridge Care Center, Cedar Rapids. Services: 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 2, 2014, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, October 1, 2014, at the funeral home. Burial: Czech National Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Survivors include her children, Nancy (Steve) Barry of Marion, Barry (Sue) Kucera of Solon, and Brian (Mary Pat) Kucera of Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren, Ryan (Jennifer) Kucera, Anna (Darin) Pint, JoAnn (Nathan) Adams and Kelly (Shawn) Bruce; and six great-grandchildren, Emily Kucera, Nadia and Katia Pint and Alex, Dakota, and Cole Adams; and a brother, Allen Neale Weaver, Sr. of Cedar Rapids..
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Alvin; brothers, Crandall and Jim Weaver; and sister, June Hansen.
Marian was born on April 22, 1926, in Roca, Nebraska, daughter of Chester and Mildred (Gambel) Weaver. She graduated from Franklin High School in 1946, in Cedar Rapids, then attended Minneapolis Art Institute. On February 12, 1949, she married Alvin Kucera in Cedar Rapids. The couple moved to Chicago where she worked for Rand McNally. The couple then returned to Cedar Rapids. Marian worked for Northwestern Bell, at Ellis YMCA as a fitness instructor and at Cedar Rapids Museum of Art. She was a member of the Park Forest Garden Club and enjoyed going for walks with friends and looking at the wildflowers. Marian also enjoyed needle work and designing. She was a longtime member of Cedar Christian Church. Marian’s family always came first in her life.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Cedar Rapids Museum of Art.
