Marian A. Hungerford, 100, a resident of the Woodlands in the MethWick Community, Cedar Rapids, died there, Friday, December 3, 2004. Services: 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 7, 2004, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids, by Louis Bell of Amenity Hospice. Friends may call from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her children, James (Nancy) Hungerford of Marshalltown, Iowa; and Karen (Thomas) Smith of Malvern, Pennsylvania; and grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Marian was born June 26, 1904, the daughter of Dr. James and Lulu (Davies) Van Horn, in Oasis, Iowa. On January 3, 1929, she was united in marriage to Judson B. (Ted) Hungerford. He preceded her in death on May 12, 1972. Marian and Ted enjoyed gardening, fishing and golfing along the Mississippi in Guttenberg, Iowa, and retirement in Fort Myers, Florida.
Marian was a 1925 graduate of Upper Iowa University at Fayette. She taught English and music in N.E. Iowa public schools and was a private teacher of piano and organ. A lifelong Methodist, Marian served her churches from childhood into her retirement as organist for worship and special events. She was a 50-year member of the Eastern Star, Worthy Matrons, and professional teaching organizations.
