Marguerite Agnes Porter, 99, of Manchester died Sunday, February 8, 2009 at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester following a brief illness.
Funeral Services will be at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, February 11, 2009 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Manchester by Rev. Greg Bahl. Family will greet friends from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 10 at Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Manchester where there will be a 4:00 p.m. Scripture Service. There will be a 10:00 a.m. Rosary Service at the church on Wednesday, prior to services. Burial will be in the St. Mary Catholic Cemetery.
Marguerite Agnes Porter was born December 15, 1909 in Turton, South Dakota, the daughter of Meddie S. and Lillie (Martin) Jarvis. She attended school at the Barrie School and St. Louis Catholic School in Turton. On June 29, 1932, Marguerite was united in marriage to Clair Porter at St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Edgewood. The couple farmed until 1957. Marguerite worked at the Manchester Hotel in the laundry department and then at the Delaware County Memorial Hospital for 13 ½ years. Clair died in September 1993. Marguerite entered the Good Neighbor Home in October 2003.
Marguerite is a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and St. Mary Rosary and Altar Society. She enjoyed dancing, her flower garden and house plants, and visiting with friends.
Marguerite is survived by her children, Donald E. Porter of Manchester, Richard L. (Judy) Porter of Fairfield, Caroline M. Porter of Vinton, Marvin L. Porter of Robins, and Paul D. (Janet) Porter of Lisbon; many, many grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Doris (Robert) Burns of Winthrop.
Marguerite was preceded in death by her parents, Meddie and Lillie Jarvis; her husband, Clair Porter; a daughter, Helen M. Chamberlain; a son, Phillip J. Porter; two grandchildren, Charlotte Talley and Vernon Porter; two great-grandchildren, Deanna Coleman and Allan Pape; a brother, Jesse Jarvis; and one sister, Florence Fisher.
