Margaret Amelia Wallace, 96, a resident of the Hiawatha Care Center, formerly of Marion, died Sunday, May 9, 2004, at the care center, following a long illness. Services: 2 p.m. Thursday, May 13, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion. Friends may call from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.

Survivors include her children, Margery E. Yanecek of Marion, Glenn E. Wallace and wife Cherie of Cedar Rapids, Robert D. Wallace of San Jose, California and Margaret M. Turner of Garland, Texas; two brothers of Canada; two sisters of Canada; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three sisters; and two brothers.

Margaret was born November 4, 1907, the daughter of Otto and Mary Jane (Peters) Samel in Stirum, North Dakota. She was raised in Canada where she lived in a sod house for two years as a child. On April 16, 1927, Margaret married Glenn Oliver Wallace Sr. in Tompkins, Saskatchewan, Canada. She was a homemaker and worked for Quaker Oats for twenty-four years before retiring in 1972. Margaret attended First United Methodist Church in Marion. She enjoyed gardening, shoveling snow, mowing lawns and traveling.

A memorial fund has been established in Margaret?s memory.
