Margaret Ann McBride, 87, of 210 Midway Drive, Marion, passed away Friday, April 3, 2009, at St Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Funeral Services: 1:00 p.m. Monday, April 6, 2009, at the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection in Marion. Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. Sunday at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Marion.

Survivors include her husband of 68 years, Bob; five children, Tom McBride of Cedar Rapids, Don (Jane) McBride of Barnard, Roger (Cindy) McBride of Rudd, Linda Koch of Cedar Rapids, and Pam (Greg) Stewart of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho; 9 grandchildren, Robert, Christy, Shelly, Julie, Jennifer, Matt, Jana, Brad, and Traci. Also surviving are 24 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and sisters, Arlene Marsh and Helen Hepker.

Margaret was born April 4, 1921, to John and Helen (Popelka) Trpkosh in Linn County, on a farm that is now called Boyson Road. She attended Marion schools and graduated from Marion High School in May of 1938. On November 23, 1940, she was married to her high school sweetheart, Robert “Bob” McBride at the First Presbyterian Church in Waterloo. Margaret worked for Collins Radio while her husband was serving in WWII in the South Pacific. Later, she worked for Sears and Roebuck as a Sales Associate for 24 years, retiring in 1983.

Margaret was a wonderful homemaker and enjoyed gardening and canning vegetables. She loved dancing and playing cards with her longtime friends, and did oil painting for many years. Margaret loved swimming and went regularly with her special friend and school pal, Hazel Cooney Brussard. She missed these outings when her friend moved to Missouri. Margaret lived a full and fun life, taking many trips, including Phoenix, Arizona, and a cruise vacation. She was a charter member of the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection in Marion.

Bob has been an in home care giver for the last three years, caring for his true love and friend. Margaret will be missed by family and all the friends she has made through the years.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Margaret’s name.
