Margaret R. Rippon, 84, formerly of Manchester, Iowa, died Tuesday evening, April 22, 2003, at the Edgewood Convalescent Home, after a brief illness. Services will be held at 11:00 am Friday, April 25, 2003 at the First Lutheran Church in Manchester, with the Rev. Jean Rabary officiating. Friends may call from 5:00pm to 8:00pm Thursday, April 24, at Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Manchester, Iowa. Burial will be in the Garber-Hansel

Margaret was born April 13, 1919, in Ida Grove, Iowa, the daughter of John & Alvina (Seehusen) Schutt. She received her education, at the Battle Creek and Ida Grove schools. Margaret was baptized on March 14, 1945 in the Lutheran Church in Omaha, Nebraska. On March 17, 1942 Margaret was united in marriage to Japen Hansel, and two sons were born to this union. Japen passed away June 25, 1948 from a brain tumor. On December 5, 1950, Margaret married John Rippon, they later divorced. Two sons were born to this union. From 1957 to 1971 Margaret operated an independent nursing home, the Margaret Rippon Custodial Nursing Home, in Manchester. She later took care of three elderly ladies in her home before retiring.

Margaret was an avid gardener. She enjoyed canning and freezing as well as baking homemade pies and bread. Margaret loved sewing quilts and she always took the extra time to ensure each hand-sewn stitch created a beautiful pattern. Many of the quilts she created won her first place in the competitions she entered. Margaret also enjoyed crocheting afghans, and wallpapering. She was an active long-time member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary #6637 of Manchester. In October of 2002, Margaret moved into the Edgewood Convalescent Home.

Margaret is survived by her two sons, John J. Hansel of Parkersburg and William L. Rippon of Manchester; her special friend, JoAnn Besler of Manchester; two grandchildren, James & Justin Hansel; one sister Minnie Muckey of Ida Grove, Iowa, one brother, Henry "Hank? Schutt of Sioux City; and many nieces and nephews.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, John & Alvina Schutt; her husbands, Japen Hansel and John Rippon; two sons, Douglas L. Hansel, in 1974 and Ronald E. Rippon, in 2001; one granddaughter, Pauline Ann Hansel; two sisters, Lylly Schutt and Freda Klein; two brothers, Louie and Harry "Henry? Schutt.
