Margaret was born on March 30, 1928, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of Jesse and Madeline (Coakley) Wickham. She was united in marriage to Hilton “Red” Matthess on December 29, 1962. For many years Peg worked at the former Carousel Restaurant in Coralville. Red and Peg owned and operated Coady’s Inn in Solon. Peg also was employed as a Cashier at ACT in Iowa City until her retirement in 1990.

Red and Peg enjoyed traveling and spending winters in Apache Junction, Arizona. Peg enjoyed reading, playing cards, court whist, watching University of Iowa sports and Formula 1 Auto Racing. Peg was most proud of her son, Dave, whom she often referred to as her “pride and joy”. She enjoyed spending time with her family, her grandsons, and especially her great-grandchildren, “the little ones”. Peg has many fond memories of her beloved Shih Tzu, Joy.

She is survived and lovingly remembered by her son, David (Jan) Andrews of Marion; two grandchildren, Dave (Keri) Andrews of Marion and Kevin (Kelly) Andrews of Ankeny, Iowa; three great-grandchildren, Max, Clare, and Kinley; two sisters-in-law, Kay and Judy Wickham; and many nieces and nephews. Peg shared a special friendship with Nancy Kinley and Terra Fairburn. She will be greatly missed.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Hilton “Red”; and brothers, Ronald Wickham and Jim Wickham.

The family would like to thank the Mercy Hospice Team and the West Ridge Staff for the care and support given to Peg these past few months.
