Margaret (Marge) Satern was born on May 22, 1922, in Aurora, Illinois, to Carl and Myrtle Krull, the third of four children. Though she grew up in the depression era, she had a wonderful outlook on life. She died peacefully at age 95, on November 20, 2017. Funeral Service: 11 a.m. Saturday, November 25, 2017, at Cedar Valley Bible Church, Cedar Rapids. Visitation: 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. Saturday, at the church. There will be a private family burial at Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Arrangements by Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids.

Marge was married for 45 years to Frank DeSousa, from their wedding day on August 18, 1943 until his passing on September 14, 1988. They were blessed with five children: Ray (Tamuna) DeSousa, Phil (Delores) DeSousa, Mary (Frank) Trimble, Kate (Ray) Lett and Joel (Sue) DeSousa. Marge worked for nearly 20 years as a school secretary for the Cedar Rapids Public Schools and made many special friends there as well as through her involvement in church activities and book clubs.

On December 6, 1997, she was united in marriage to Richard (Dick) Satern and enjoyed the blessing of adding four step-children to her family: Mark Satern, Miriam Satern, Monte (Karen) Satern, and Mary (Mark) Sarchett. Marge loved hearing the latest news about each family member and treasured all her grandkids, great-grandkids and great-great grandson.

Her circle of friends widened quickly in Toddville, especially with Dick’s involvement with the Otter Creek Lions Club and Toddville American Legion.

In February 2017, they left their Toddville home to move into Prairie Hills Senior Living in Cedar Rapids. Dick passed away on April 4, 2017. Marge continued to live at Prairie Hills where she developed friendships with other residents and had a close relationship with the caring nurses and staff members.

Marge is survived by four children, four step-children, 16 grandkids, 18 great-grandkids, 1 great-great grandson; sister, Dorothy Hornback; sister-in-law Helen Krull; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Frank DeSousa; second husband, Richard Satern; her son, Phil; great-grandson, Owen Lett; brothers, Robert Krull and Ralph Krull (and his wife, Frieda); and brother-in-law, Richard Hornback.

Margaret’s life was anchored in her Lord and Savior, Christ Jesus. She loved God, her family, her many friends, and the Chicago Cubs.
