Margaret M. Lopata, 92, of Walker, Iowa, died Wednesday, October 15, 2008, in St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids, following short illness. Services: 10:00 a.m., Saturday, October 18, 2008, at Walker United Methodist Church, Walker, by the Rev. Norman Kelley. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m., Friday, October 17, 2008, at the Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Walker. Burial: Troy Mills Cemetery.
Survivors include her sons, David (Georgene) Lopata of Walker, Ron (Betty) Lopata of Walker and Alan Lopata and friend Ann Mudd of Winthrop; grandchildren, Michele (Randy) Eich, Melinda (Todd) Reves, Melissa (Don) Heffernen, Marti (Jason) Bellach, Michael (Heidi) Lopata, Rory (Brittany) Lopata, Rick (Autum) Lopata, Tina (Mark) Mangrich, Bethany (Will) Steinkamp and Kayla Lopata; great grandchildren, Nolan and Drew Eich, Dalton and Danica Heffernen, Brea, Dylan and Cole Bellach, Brayden and Brogan Lopata, Evan, Ally and Lucas Lopata, Nick, Owen, Natalie and Jordan Mangrich, and Cael and Caden Steinkamp; and her twin sister, Gertrude Rosene of Rock Island, Illinois.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lester; and one great grandchild, Morgan Reves.
Margaret was born April 2, 1916, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of George and Rose (Janda) Holcomb. On July 23, 1941, she was united in marriage to Lester Lopata in Cedar Rapids. He died November 25, 1988. Along with her husband she was a vegetable gardener.
Margaret was a member of the Walker United Methodist Church, Walker Rare Club, and the Troy Mills and Walker American Legion Auxiliaries.
Margaret liked making ceramics, was an avid vegetable gardener and enjoyed going to local farmers markets. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren.
