Margaret I. Kragenbrink, 95, of Earlville, Iowa, died Thursday, June 11, 2009, at the Good Neighbor Home, Manchester, following complications of age.
Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 15, 2009, at the First Lutheran Church in Manchester, Iowa. Visitation will be from 3:00 pm - 7:00 pm on Sunday, June 14 at the Clifton-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Earlville. Additional visitation one hour before services Monday at the church. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery, Earlville
Margaret was born on July 4, 1913, the daughter of Martin R. and Amelia (Jungk) Yelden. She attended school at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran School in Delaware. On February 3, 1934, Margaret was united in marriage to William H. “Bill” Kragenbrink. The couple lived in the Earlville area most of their lives until Bill’s death in 1975.
Margaret was a long time member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Earlville where she was a part-time organist for many years. She was an active member of the Good Neighbor Home Auxiliary, a long-time member of the Earlville Garden Club, a local bridge group, and the Earlville Community Club. For more than 40 years, Margaret made mission quilts that were sent annually to Lutheran World Relief.
Margaret is survived by her children, Gene (Melody) Kragenbrink of Ankeny, Joanne (James) Laxson of Earlville, and Carol State of Englewood, CO; 14 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and one niece, Maralyn Burnside of Des Moines.
Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, William H “Bill” Kragenbrink; her parents, Martin R. and Amelia Yelden; a son, William M. “Bud” Kragenbrink in 2007; a daughter, Virginia K. Strief in 2008; and sisters, A. Lorraine Kavka and Martalyn R. Jones.
