Margaret M. Hough, 87, of Heritage Nursing and Rehab Center, died Tuesday, May 20, 2008, at the care center, following a short illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 23, 2008, at Christ Episcopal Church. The family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 22, 2008, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include a brother, Charles Swope, Sr. of Cedar Rapids; a nephew, Charles (Paula) Swope, Jr., of Oakland, Iowa; a niece, Jane (John) Caes of New Liberty, Iowa; her stepchildren, Diana (Joseph) Shandling of New York and Stephen (Mary) Hough of California; four great-nephews; a great-niece; a great-great-nephew; and four great-great-nieces; 10 stepgrandchildren; and many stepgreat-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur; a niece, Kris Swope; and stepdaughter, Kathryn Rymea.
Margaret was born July 22, 1922, the daughter of Roy and Margaret (Kuhn) Swope, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. On June 12, 1965, she married Arthur Hough in Cedar Rapids. He died October 30, 1997. Margaret was an Assistant Vice-President for Merchants National Bank in Cedar Rapids, retiring in 1982.
Margaret liked Dixieland Jazz and was a member of Royal Neighbors of America. After retirement, she and Arthur spent many years in Mesa, Arizona.
