Margaret E. Hamling, 89, of Walker, died Saturday, November 20, 2004, at the West Village Care Center, Independence, following a long illness. Services: 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, November 24, 2004, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Walker, by Father Gabriel Anderson. Friends may call 4-8 p.m., Tuesday, November 23, 2004, at the funeral home with a rosary beginning at 7:00 p.m. Burial: Sacred Heart Cemetery, Walker.
Survivors include a brother, Ed Zieser of Walker and a sister, Frances Stebbins of Cedar Rapids, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Nicholas; her parents; a daughter, Carol at birth; her brothers, Joe Zieser, Art Zieser, Lawrence Zieser, Elmer Zieser, Raymond Zieser and Walter Zieser; and her sisters, Mary Tarpy, Lucille Scott, and Catherine Benter.
Margaret was born July 17, 1915, the daughter of Frank and Elizabeth (Hoffmann) Zieser. On June 11, 1941, she married Nicholas Hamling at St. Mary?s Catholic Church in Spencer Grove. He died on December 6, 1985. Nick and Margaret farmed in Alburnett for 30 years before moving to Walker. She was a housewife and a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, American Legion and the Auxiliary.
