Margaret E. Cook, 84, of Wayzata, Minnesota, formerly of Urbana, Iowa, died Friday, May 21, 2004, in her home following a short illness. Services: 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 24, 2004, at Urbana Christian Church in Urbana, by the Rev.Tom Felts. Friends may call from 9-11 a.m. Monday at the church. Burial: Urbana Cemetery with military rites. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Center Point.
Survivors include a brother, Chandler (Doris) Cook of Urbana; and nieces, Pam (Del) Coburn of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin and Debbie (Kevin) Wilt of Orono, Minnesota.
Also surviving are great nieces and nephew, Joshua Coburn, Hannah Coburn, Jennifer (Jerid) Schoeck, Karissa Wilt and Andrea Wilt. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Margaret was born the daughter of Ross and Esther (McVay) Cook on April 12, 1920, in Urbana. She graduated from Urbana High School in 1937 and Coe College in 1941. She began her career as a teacher. Margaret was a High School principal in Center Point and served as head of the English department in Morenci, Arizona. She then served in the U. S. Air Force from 1957 to 1977, retiring as a Lt. Colonel. During her time in the Air Force she served on numerous bases throughout the world and at the Pentagon, serving as an officer in special investigation and counterintelligence.
After retiring from the Air Force she moved to Tucson, Arizona, where she enjoyed volunteer work for Casa Adobe Church and enjoyed traveling and socializing with her friends. She also enjoyed researching her family geneology.
